This last couple of weeks, Ollie, started to rub his head on the hay feeder and also on the water tank! Then, Pip, started to bite at her legs and was rubbing her body where ever she could!
I knew it was, mites! I called the vet and she came out to me today and gave me two tubs of Frontline.

I had the vet to, Paris, two years ago for mites and she had the Dectomax injection. She started to rip her feathers out and caused bleeding. I had to cut all the feathers off and then I could see just how bad it was for her!
Her feathers were so thick it was impossible to see any sores at all. When they were cut away, the sores were there to see and it was not a pretty sight, bless her.
They didn't take long to clear up. I used sudocrem on the sores and it healed them beautiful. The injection worked and the vet called out again nearly three weeks later for the second injection, to kill the eggs that had hatched.
The vet that called out today didn't want to use the injection on,Ollie and gave me the Frontline instead. I groomed him all over and Amy, had hold of, Ollie, while I sprayed him.
He was so well behaved and we managed to spray him all over.
Then we did, Pip. Amy, groomed her and then sprayed her. I used just one bottle between two horses. They are not very big at all and thought they would of been a lot bigger!
Ollie, being young has a very thick and long coat on him. It is taking forever to groom him!
He looks like a teddy bear!! This is why the mites have effected him more then the others.
They love to be kept warm and like the moist.
I started by moving the mane over to the other side and then sprayed from the top and all the way down to the end of the mane. Then I sprayed down the back and at the base of the tail. Then I sprayed the legs, starting half way down the leg by parting the hair and into the feathers. One thing I liked about the spray is it doesn't make a noise! Horses can get scared from the noise! Plus there wasn't much of a smell to it! Read all about the horse mite here, their name and how they live on the horse. The harm they cause the horse and the treatment you can use.
